A new identity signals changes in services and facilities

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh

With the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh poised to modernize and improve its large urban system (22 facilities), Library Director Herb Elish came to us to help articulate the Library’s brand, and give it visual form. The new symbol fuses two letterforms together: an “L” for Library, and the lower case “i” that is the internationally recognized symbol for “information.” Bright, upbeat colors add a welcoming feel.

This simple symbol signals exciting changes in services, collections, and facilities. Our design process itself—comprising extensive information gathering, site visits, key person interviews, surveys, and benchmarking—served as a model for a personable, thorough, and creative approach to the delivery of Library services.
