Convention Center Panels
Pittsburgh’s new David Lawrence Convention Center is the world’s largest structure built with environmentally responsible or “green building” principles guiding the project. Green Building Alliance saw this as an ideal platform for raising awareness of green building issues.
Six permanent display panels tell the story of the Convention Center’s green use of air, water, light, and materials. The narrow horizontal panels mimic the window frames stretching behind them, and the panels' framework intentionally blends with the surrounding architectural vocabulary. A dramatic oversized image sets the theme for each panel, and supporting information appears as a sidebar. The exhibit was featured in a Communication Arts article on green design.
