Marking the anniversary of a medical breakthrough
Remembering Polio
In 1955, Jonas Salk and a team of University of Pittsburgh researchers developed the first polio vaccine. Pitt celebrated the 50th anniversary of this medical breakthrough with community events and a scientific symposium. We designed an interactive website to gather community memories: tens of thousands of Pittsburghers participated in the initial mass immunizations, and the site invited them to share their memories. The site mixes archival images with bright, celebratory colors. We also designed print materials to promote the anniversary celebration, including ads, posters, brochures, and banners.
